With an ever-growing economy and companies readily searching for skills development opportunities for their employees, Capital Hotel School is equipped with accredited learning material and industry expert facilitators to take hospitality education, training and development to new heights.
Samuel Gara, a passionate lecturer at CHS, feels fortunate to have been chosen to facilitate three skills programmes for learners in Middelburg and Belfast, fully funded by Mafube Colliery, an Anglo mine in Middelburg, Mpumalanga Province.
The following CATHSSETA accredited skills programmes were offered:
• Room Attendant
• Food Service Assistant
• Hospitality Assistant
“This was an amazing experience for me personally. I am very passionate about skills development, even more-so when the recipients are from disadvantaged communities from which these learners were selected. Capital Hotel School provided me, as it continues to do, with an opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of young South Africans.”
Samuel’s willingness, drive and passion to enrich and develop these unemployed learners were evident in his relentless sourcing of practical placements for workplace integrated learning in an area with limited resources and where transport was often a challenge.
Samuel also conducted theory classes and made use of theoretical and practical exercises and tasks, including the participation in role plays and demonstrations to prepare them for the workplace.
“The students were amazing, and they loved every bit of the experience, Samuel confidently expresses. Before the training, most of them had very little to no knowledge of the hospitality industry, but by the time they qualified, they were enlightened and truly proud of their accomplishments.
As a facilitator, nothing beats the joy I get from seeing the positive impact hands-on training makes, and the endless opportunities that it creates for the recipients. This makes me realise again, that I have chosen the right career path.”
Samuel is undoubtedly certain that CHS has the future of the young and unemployed South Africans at heart and concludes with saying; “The support I get every day from all the CHS staff and management is unparalleled. Everyone makes it their mission to ensure that students get the best hospitality training available.”
