Our first Open Day for 2026 at Capital Hotel School was built around a simple belief: anyone can cook a dish, but becoming a chef is about learning how to transform something familiar into something truly special. That idea inspired our theme, “A Taste of What’s to Come.”
We chose to showcase a dish everyone recognises – banana bread. It’s comforting, nostalgic, and something most people have baked or tasted before. But at Capital Hotel School, we look beyond the obvious.
We paired the banana bread with a creamy labneh and finished it with a savoury caramel infused with black pepper and fresh thyme. The flavours were unexpected, but they worked – just as intended.
This is what we try to teach our students every day. The basics matter. Technique matters. And when flavour and balance are truly understood, even the simplest dish can be elevated into something unforgettable.
The Open Day wasn’t about showing off a complicated dish. It was about demonstrating what happens when strong foundational skills meet curiosity and creativity. A small taste of what our students learn, how they develop, and the exciting journey that lies ahead at CHS.
