Programme Overview
This programme aims to upskill employees who are currently employed in an accommodation service role. The learner will:
- Learn the basics of effective and sincere guest service.
- Learn how to correctly handle and store guest belongings.
- Learn how to correctly and efficiently clean guest bedroom areas.
- Learn how to correctly and efficiently clean public areas.
- Learn more about cleaning self-catering units.
- Understand the importance of the porter service.
- Understand the importance of teamwork in the accommodation services environment.
- Learn how to successfully integrate into their work environment.
- Learn how to induct and coach new employees.
- Learn the ins and outs of the hospitality industry.
- Understand the fundamentals of accommodation services and hotel lay out.
- Understand the hotel and tourism sectors.
- Learn how to manage areas of work including rooms and laundry areas.
- Understand fundamental stock take principles.
- Understand the planning and preparation related to work areas and sections.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this programme and the completion of a portfolio of evidence the learner will be able to:
- Prepare beds and handle linen and bed coverings.
- Service toilets and bathroom areas.
- Service guest bedroom areas.
- Clean floors and floor coverings.
- Handle and store cleaning equipment and materials.
- Handle and dispose of waste.
- Maintain the housekeeping service.
- Maintain a safe and secure working environment.
- Maintain the cleaning programme for your own area of responsibility.
- Induct new staff to the workplace.
Workplace Based Learning
Workplace based learning, which is prescribed in the curriculum, takes place under close supervision and according to a roster to complement the theoretical studies. Learners must be permanently employed in a kitchen of a hotel, restaurant, guest house or similar establishments.
Blended Learning
The Oxford Dictionary defines blended learning as a style of education in which students learn via electronic and online media as well as traditional face-to-face teaching.

In-Service (10 months) with 23 contact sessions

Grade 12 (Matric)

Cost will depend on learner/company’s requirements, location (for assessment) and number and computer literacy of learners.
