Meri Lodewyks



Pretoria, South Africa – August 2018; If there was one industry that offers infinite possibilities, it has to be Hospitality Management. The profession itself requires passion and self-motivation and because of this, Capital Hotel School (CHS) alumni, Meri Lodewyks not only got to work overseas, but continues to inspire other learners as a lecturer at CHS.

As self-professed fan of housekeeping and front office work, Meri says that although she had to get used to being away from home, learning different cultures and the way different hotels operate when she worked at The Mary Green Manor Hotel – a boutique hotel located in the countryside in Brentwood, United Kingdom – was one of her career highlights. “After working through various departments as part of my practical experience including the pastry kitchen, I really fell in love with housekeeping and front office – I really felt like these were the two areas of the hotel where I got to know and understand guests from all over the world,” says Meri.

“Teamwork was one of the most significant lessons I learned whilst building my 15-year career,” says Meri of the most valuable part of her hospitality management journey. She makes sure that when teaching her students, they leave no task unfinished and remember that the passion they have for their job will ultimately extend to the service provided to the guests in their care.


“Live by your values and believe in your dreams,” say Meri, “they will take you places you never imagined and offer your lessons that will be with you throughout your own hospitality journey.”
