National Food Preparation and Cooking

Course Introduction

This national qualification (SAQA ID 14111) has been developed to offer a wide spectrum of unemployed persons and school leavers with a Grade 10 certificate or equivalent, the opportunity to qualify themselves for job opportunities as commis chefs in the hospitality industry.

In accordance with CHS policy regarding lifelong learning, successful candidates can on completion of the certificate course enroll for other full time or part time courses offered by CHS to further their qualifications. All credits obtained will be recognised if applicable to other programmes offered by CHS.

Course Outline

The course will consists of five months on campus (theoretical and practical) training and 5 months off campus practical training; the latter will be arranged by CHS under close supervision and according to a roster to complement the theoretical training.

City & Guilds – Optional Extra:

  • Certificate in Food Preparation and Cooking (8065-01) o Food Safety in Catering (8065-203)

These practical placements ensure that our students are ready for employment upon completion of the course as they have gained invaluable workplace experience.
