Celebrating

21 Years

The Capital Hotel School and Training Academy was founded in January 2001; humble beginnings with 21 hospitality management students in a rented facility in Schoeman Street Forum Hatfield. Our training facilty consisted of one classroom, an office, a reception, a recreational area and cloakrooms with ample open-air parking and a small garden.

Two lecturers and i facilitated all administrative and training functions with the assistance of guest lecturers, who were industry experts. The Sheraton Hotel was the new guy on the block and agreed to partner with us to provide work integrated learning for our students. We’re proud to still have them as one of our esteemed practical partners today.

By 2006 we had enrolled 120 students and occupied most of the ground floor in Schoeman Street Forum.

Rumours had it the Gautrain Station was going to be built in front of the building which would occupy all the students’ parking.

Our classrooms were becoming crowded and making the decision to offer chef courses full-time, the search was on to find our own premises.
By default, we spotted the for-sale sign at 919 Church street during school holidays in December. To our delight it was still a full erf and the negotiations and lots of paperwork for rezoning began.

The residential home, now our administration offices, was built in 1935 for the first CEO of Barclays Bank and has beautiful fixtures and fittings ranging from crystal chandeliers, fireplaces and yellow wood doors and floors. Building of the training facility commenced late in 2006, and we moved in late August 2007, just in time as our lease agreement in Schoeman street expired in August 2007.

We have had many expansions and changes to the training facility to accommodate the ever changing demands and trends in the hospitality industry and more importantly, to simulate real practical experiences for our learners. We are a proud and happy family in this graceful home of ours, where the new and old blend in perfect harmony and we can live our legacy.

Passionately embracing hospitality education and training through innovation and distinction

This is the motto of the Capital Hotel School (CHS) that opened its doors in January 2001 in Pretoria. Our mission is to offer relevant and current accredited hospitality education and training programmes to school leavers, unemployed and employed staff; empowering aspiring and qualified chefs and hospitality operations candidates to get employment, advance their skill set and excel in the workplace.
